At The P31 Foundation, we recognize the importance of addressing the challenges faced by girls, particularly in accessing menstrual hygiene products. Our Sanitary Pads Provision Program aims to provide essential sanitary pads to girls in underserved communities, starting with the Association Community Model Basic School in Labone.

The Problem

Prior to the initiation of our program, many girls at the Association Community Model Basic School faced significant barriers in managing their menstrual hygiene effectively. Due to the escalating costs of sanitary pads, a vital necessity for all girls, a considerable number of them were unable to afford them on a regular basis. Consequently, the school had to allocate a portion of its budget to maintain a stock of sanitary pads, which proved to be unsustainable in the long term. Additionally, this dependency on the school’s supply often led to an inadequate supply of sanitary pads among the girls, posing risks to their health and well-being.

Our Solution

To address this pressing issue, The P31 Foundation implemented a targeted intervention. Every month, I personally visit the Association Community Model Basic School to distribute two packs of sanitary pads to over 100 girls. This ensures that each girl receives an adequate supply of pads to manage her menstrual hygiene needs effectively throughout the month.

Educational Outreach

Our support extends beyond the provision of sanitary pads. During these monthly visits, we engage with the girls in interactive sessions where we discuss various topics, including menstruation and hygiene, personal development, Christianity, and educational aspirations. By facilitating open and informative discussions, we aim to empower the girls with knowledge and confidence, enabling them to make informed choices about their health, education, and future endeavours.

Our Impact and Future Goals

Through our Sanitary Pads Provision Program, we have witnessed a tangible improvement in the menstrual hygiene practices and overall well-being of the girls at the Association Community Model Basic School. Our ultimate goal is to expand our reach to more schools and communities, ensuring that every girl has access to the resources and support needed to thrive.
